Teacher discounts...music to my ears!

Summer break. A welcome respite each year that gives us time to recharge (and some years, recover!). In our school district, classroom teachers are classified as 10 month employees for salary purposes. As 10 month employees, we receive a salary just 10 months a calendar year and budgets are often tight during our two off months. Thankfully, many businesses offer teacher programs and/or discounts. Click on this website to find a pretty extensive list of places that offer teacher discounts: http://www.giftcardgranny.com/blog/the-complete-list-of-66-teacher-discounts/
I was excited to learn Graceland is one of the places that offers free admission with a teacher ID! I "Can't Help Falling In Love" with that deal!

My birthday falls in July, right in the middle of our salary hiatus, so a couple of years ago I researched restaurants who offer freebies or discounts for birthdays. There are so many offers out there! I signed up for as many as I could find in my area and now each first week of July my mailbox and email inbox are inundated with free entree, free meal, and discount offers. Chain restaurants such as Houlihans, Tucanos Brazilian Grill, Cold Stone Creamery, and Red Robin offer really great birthday freebies. I highly recommend doing a web search for offers available in your area...it's a gift that keeps on giving every year!

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog! I am beginning this blog as an outlet to share thoughts, ideas and resources. I have been a Special Education teacher since 2007. Before that, I was a child abuse and neglect social worker and supervisor for 14 years. I am an avid traveler when the budget allows and love experiencing new places and cultures as well as revisiting favorite places (especially Ireland!).  I hope to be able to share some lessons learned from my experiences in and out of the classroom with this blog. Thank you for visiting!
